Bruce A Salzburg
Wyoming Attorney General
The Wyoming Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission (POST) sets standards for employing, certifying, and training of all peace officers in the state, all detention officers, (county jails) all corrections officers (state institutions) and all dispatchers. These personnel are from municipal, county and state agencies. We maintain training files on all of these personnel, and monitor and enforce all mandated standards for their certification and recertification. There are continuing education standards in place for all of the certifications which must be met every two years. We also administer a pre-employment written exam for perspective law enforcement employees and make that list of successful candidates available to all agencies who request it.
We also administer promotion exams for the agencies and schedule upon their request. We have the statutory mandate to work with the Board of Coroners in certifying all coroners and deputy coroners who have met the mandatory basic requirements. We maintain all of their training files and monitor just as we do all law enforcement training files. The Commission also has the authority to de-certify for cause those individuals who are deemed to no longer meet the standards or mandates, or whose actions cause disciplinary action to be taken against their employment. These de-certification actions follow the "Administrative Procedures Act" and can end up in a full hearing before the Commission. The Commission meets twice a year, in April and in Sept. Special meetings when needed can be called by the Chairman.
